Abstract

CHANGES IN LEYDIG CELLS AFTER TREATMENT OF TU-CHUNG EXTRACTDURING ENDURANCE TRAINING IN MALE RATS

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Tu-Chung extract on the activities of enzymes in Leydig cells during strenuous endurance training. Male rats swam with loads of 3.5% body weight for 90 min, 6 days per week for 5 weeks. Concentrated Tu-Chung extract was orally administered in the training group at a dose of 0.7 ml/100g body weight 1 hr before exercise daily. Distilled water was given by a similar method to other sedentary and training groups. We found that strenuous exercise training could increase the activities of SDH and LDH, but reduce the activity of G6PDH in Leydig cells. The higher levels of SDH and G6PDH with the treatment of Tu-Chung extract might contribute to faster recovery in serum testosterone after strenuous exercise.
