In traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that exercise-induced fatigue is related with the depletion of energy materials in the body. It is also related with the disorder of nervous system, endocrine system and immunity system. From this point of view, we studied the effects of Chinese herbs reinforcing the body resistance and regulation of Qi on the recovery of exercise-induced fatigue in SD male rats. The data about carbohydrate (CHO) metabolism were measured. In this research, the effects of exercise training and the Chinese herbs on the liver and muscle glycogen concentrations, the activities of phosphofructokinase (PFK) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH) were studied. It was found that Chinese herbs can reinforce body resistance and regulate Qi, increase the use of glycogen in muscle cell and promote the cleaning of the harmful products during exercise. Thus it might have the effect of enhancing the recovery of exercise-induced fatigue.
