About the Journal
The Journal of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society is the official journal
of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society. It publishes peer-reviewed articles
on geriatric medicine including original articles, medical audits and
evaluations, reviews, viewpoints, case reports, history in geriatrics,
statistics corner and abstracts of proceedings. The length of the articles
is preferable to be in the range of 2,000 to 3,000 words. Short pieces
of mini-reviews are welcome. Other short articles less than 700 words)
as fillers may also be accepted, especially those on Chinese medical
history, traditional Chinese medicine or wisdom, quotations, aphorisms
and clinical photos of geriatric interest.
The Journal is published twice yearly in January and July of the year.
The circulation volume is up to 1,800 copies and is distributed locally
to members of the Society, Physicians, Family Physicians, all private
and public hospitals, nursing schools, tertiary education institutions,
other overseas geriatrics organisations and renowned geriatricians overseas.

Instructions to Authors
- Aims and Scope The Journal of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society
is the official publication of the Hong Kong Geriatrics Society. It
publishes peer-reviewed articles on geriatric medicine including review
articles, clinical studies, case reports, medical audit, conference
reports, abstracts of proceedings and selected literature. The length
of article is preferable to be in the range of around 2,000 to 3,000
words. Short pieces (less than 700 words) as fillers may also be accepted,
especially those on Chinese medical history, traditional Chinese medicine
or wisdom, quotations, aphorisms, local medical developments, clinical
photos of geriatric interest.
- Abstracting and Indexing Services The journal is indexed
in HONGKONGGIANA, the electronic database produced by the Hong Kong
Polytechnic University Library. The "HONGKONGGIANA" atabase
is also available for searching via the Dialog Service (at file 748)
of Knight-Ridder Information (internet address http://www.dialog.com).
Contents and abstracts of the journal is also available on our Society
homepage in the internet (address http://medicine.org.hk/hkgs).
- Submission of manuscripts Contributions and correspondence
should be sent to Dr C M Lum, Editor-in-chief, Journal of the Hong

Hospital, A Kung Kok Street, Shatin, Hong Kong (email address to ccmlum@cuhk.edu.hk).
- Copyright Articles are accepted on the under-standing that
they have not been published and are being considered for publication
elsewhere. The journal reserves copyright of all articles published.
- Peer Review Manuscripts will be sent anony-mously to referees
from the local Editorial Board and the international Board of Honorary
Editors and Advisors. Accepted articles are subjected to editorial
revision.
- Preparation of Manuscripts Three copies of the manuscripts
should be submitted. They should be word-processed or typed on one
side of white A4 (21cm x 30cm) paper and double spaced with a margins
of 2.5cm. Once the con-tribution is accepted for publication, the
author will be asked to send a floppy disc prepared on IBM PC compatible
personal computer. Authors must name the software program and version
used (eg Microsoft Word 6.0).
- Style and Format
Author Page This should include the full names of all
authors with their qualifications and affiliations, the full name
and address to whom correspondence should be sent (this page will
not be sent to referees).
Title & Summary Page The second page should include
the title of the manuscript and a summary not exceeding 250 words.
The summaries may be used by journals which make abstracts.
References should be numbered in the order (in superscripts)
in which they appear in the text. At the end of the article the full
list of references should give the names and initials of all authors
(unless there are more than six, when only the first three should
be given followed by et al). The authors' names are fol¡V lowed by
the title of the article; the title of the journal (in italics) abbreviated
according to the style of Index Medicus; the year of publication;
the volume number (in boldface); and the first and last page numbers
(eg Harris A. Health checks for people over 75. Br Med J 1992;305:
599-600). For books, the author(s) should be followed by the chapter
title, editor(s) (if applicable), book title (in italics), place of
publication, publisher, year and page numbers (eg Allen S C. Ageing
and the respiratory system. In: Brocklehurst JC, Tallis RC, Fillett
H (eds). Textbook of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology 4th edition.
Edinburgh: Churchill Livingstone, 1992:739-768).
Illustrations can be submitted in the forms of photos,
slides, films, drawings or computer graphics. Drawings, diagrams and
graphs should be in black ink on smooth white paper or thin board.
If labelling is required, letters or numbers should be indicated on
a copy, not on original artwork. Photographs and photomicrographs
should be printed on glossy paper. All illustration should bear on
the reverse side the authors' name, a short title of the paper, and
a figure number. Legends should be typed and supplied separately not
attached to the illustration. The magnification of illustrations should
be given where appropriate. Computer graphics on a floppy disc (5.25"
or 3.5") in IBM PC compatible Harvard graphics or Bitmap formats are
acceptable.
Units S. I. units should be used where possible or included
in parenthesis.
