Abstract

Hong Kong experienced an unusual spring this year. Atypical Pneumonia which later known as SARS attacked this populated Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Combating SARS is a challenge to the health care system as well as the health care personnel in Hong Kong. Among other health care personnel, nurses are at the frontier of the battle. In order to make out the impact of SARS on nurses, the author interviewed some accident and emergency nurses in late May when the disease was put under control. All but one interviewees were staff working at Accident and Emergency Department (AED) before the SARS outbreak.
