Abstract
As the medical input into infirmary care is getting less intense compared with the other medical specialties, it is an opportunity for infirmary nurses to develop an extended and advanced nursing role. The Infirmary unit of Wong Tai Sin Hospital has formulated the Nursing Led Infirmary Practice Model in 2000 and implemented it in April 2001. Nurses were able to excel to care coordinator with fulfillments from health assessment to care coordination and outcomes evaluation. The care coordinator is on substantive position to carry out the nursing-led infirmary care. The advanced nursing roles are collaborators of planned care and services, case managers, change agents and health consultants.
